Watamu - the most popular diving spot in Kenya
The Indian Ocean coast around Watamu offers a wide variety of diving spots for both beginners and advanced divers. But there’s even more to explore than just the underwater world: combine your stay with a safari into the world famous national parks Tsavo East, Tsavo West or the Masai Mara, and experience the unique and exciting wildlife and nature of Africa.
The dive center is closed annually in May and June due to the weather.
Please note that diving on the outer reefs, especially after the monsoon break, is always dependent on the weather.
Kenya / Extra Divers Temple Point
Diving/Dive spots
The EXTRA DIVERS dive center is located inside the Temple Point Resort in Watamu, only a couple of steps from the jetty. We can also organize your transfer to the dive center from the neighboring hotels in Watamu. The ideal location on the Mida Creek shore allows for tide-independent access into the Watamu Marine National Park.
The intact and diverse reefs are accessed by boat and are home to many different coral- and ocean-dwellers, among them octopuses, surgeon fishes, glas fish, lobsters, crabs, groupers, moray eels and stingrays. Big overhangs, channels and intact coral gardens harbor many different species of animals. With a little bit of luck you’re going to encounter everything in these waters. Macro fans discover colorful nudibranches, mantis shrimp, leaf scorpion fish, cleaner shrimp and ribbon eels. Best diving season is between October and March!
Most of the 16 diving spots with depths between 8 and 40 meters are about 20 to 40 minutes by boot from the dive center. The water temperature ranges between 24° and 28° Celsius. The dive centre offers morning trips with 2 dives, as well as afternoon dives.
