THE UNTOUCHED SOUTH
Two Extra Divers Mirbat dive centers are located on the southern coast of Oman, about an hour’s drive from Salalah. The idyllic bays are a hidden gem for divers and anyone seeking oriental charm away from the crowds. The Extra Divers Mirbat centers are located at the Alila Hinu Bay and Wyndham Garden Hotel, offering boat dives to pristine dive sites in the surrounding area.
The dive centers are closed seasonally from June 1st to September 30th due to weather conditions.

Diving/Dive spots

Approximately 20 dive sites are within reach of Extra Divers Mirbat. The sites are teeming with marine life, featuring reefs populated by lobsters, rays, octopuses, and large cuttlefish. Divers can also explore two shipwrecks: the Chinese Wreck and the Marriott Wreck, both serving as artificial reefs attracting a multitude of fish schools. Other highlights include turtles, torpedo rays, bluespotted rays, eagle rays and a variety of eels, including the rare dragon moray. The dive sites are suitable for divers of all certification levels, with most spots being relatively shallow, ranging from 20 to 25 meters. The southern region of Oman does not feature steep drop-offs or reefs deeper than 30 meters.
Starting in November, visitors can encounter large schools of dolphins. During the dolphin season, almost daily snorkeling tours are offered to a beach about an hour’s drive away, where guests may have the chance to observe dolphins in their natural habitat. From January to April, Mirbat even offers the opportunity to spot whales or orcas from the dive boat.
Dive Centers
• Alila Hinu Bay Center: Located directly on the beautiful sandy beach of the Alila Hotel, the center features a reception, shop, two bathrooms with showers, rinse tanks, and a cozy terrace.
• Wyndham Garden Center: Found near the spa on the way to the lovely beach, this center includes a reception, shop, classroom, two bathrooms with showers, outdoor showers, a workshop, compressor room, equipment room, rinse tanks, and a welcoming terrace.
Both centers conduct daily boat dives with fiberglass speedboats, departing from the Wyndham Garden floating jetty. Snorkeling tours are also available, with Bird Island being a favorite snorkeling destination. Boats typically leave at 8:00 AM for two morning dives and return to the jetty afterward. Afternoon dives can be arranged on request, subject to a minimum number of participants. Most dive sites are just 5 to 15 minutes from the jetty.

Team & Education

The dive centers operate under professional German management and offer courses and specialty courses for all levels, following SSI standards. Courses are available in English, Italian, French, and with assistance in German.

Payments can be made in OMR, EUR, or USD, processed through the hotels. Exchange rates are updated daily. Please note that US dollar bills issued before 2007 are not accepted anywhere in Oman.
