Nabucco’s Resort Speyside Inn

Nabucco's Resort Speyside Inn

Location

This small, personally run hotel in a typical Caribbean style is located in the quiet village of Speyside in the northeast of Tobago. It is separated from the narrow, long sandy beach only by a lightly trafficked coastal road.

Tobago Airport (TAB) is approximately 40 kilometers away. Transfer time ranges between one and one and a half hours depending on traffic conditions.

Within walking distance, there are three small waterfront restaurants as well as a small kiosk offering snacks. During the low season, some restaurants in the village may be closed.

The surrounding countryside is hilly, densely vegetated, and very unspoiled. The region is very quiet, and tourism is minimal on this side of the island. Speyside features a long, narrow sandy beach but is only partially suitable as a traditional beach holiday destination. Instead, visitors can expect excellent dive sites and authentic Caribbean charm.

Facilities

This charming, family-run property with only 19 rooms offers an authentic Caribbean atmosphere.

Its location is particularly attractive: the hotel faces directly onto the sea and the beach. Access to the beach is easy via a small, lightly trafficked coastal road. A small swimming pool, beautifully located on a hillside behind the main building, offers additional relaxation and refreshment.

All rooms feature magnificent sea views, including the offshore islands Goat Island and Little Tobago, which are known for their rich birdlife. Frigatebirds, pelicans, gulls, and many other species shape the impressive natural panorama around the islands and the lush, forested interior.

The hotel offers 13 Superior Rooms in the main building across three floors. In addition, there are two Tower Rooms in a tower-like annex and two quietly located bungalows in the rear hillside garden area.

The cozy restaurant with bar and sea view is well known on the island for its excellent cuisine.

Wi-Fi is available free of charge in the restaurant, although occasional connection issues may occur in Speyside.

The electrical outlets are American-style (Type B), so an adapter is recommended

Room Facilities

Bungalow (2–3 adults)

Located on the hillside behind the pool are one single bungalow and one double bungalow on stilts, ideal for families.

The bungalows offer similar amenities to the Superior Rooms but are significantly more spacious. The double bungalow consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms connected by a shared living area, making it ideal for families or groups of adults traveling together.

The large terraces offer beautiful views of the pool and the sea and invite guests to relax. Due to their hillside location, they offer a high level of privacy and tranquility.

In the morning, the lively bird calls from the nearby rainforest create a strong nature experience. The bungalows are accessed via stairs through the garden.

Superior Room (1–3 persons)

The 13 Superior Rooms are located in the main building and spread over three floors. All rooms offer beautiful direct sea views.

Amenities include a small table, air conditioning, refrigerator, hairdryer, safe, and a bathroom with shower/WC and hot water. Each room also has a balcony with sea view.

Sports & Activities

Diving and snorkeling as well as excursions in the surrounding area are available for an additional fee.

Highly recommended are excursions to the nearby bays of Charlotteville and Pirates Bay. From Flagstaff Hill, visitors can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of these coastal areas and the bird sanctuary island St. Giles, where frigatebirds and pelicans are frequently seen.

A special highlight is guided rainforest tours to a waterfall, offering deep insight into the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest.

Food / Meals

Breakfast or Half board. In the morning, guests enjoy a varied continental breakfast. In the evening, a tasty set menu is served in the hotel restaurant. Drinking water (served in carafes) is included with meals.

Payment on-site

By credit card (Visa/Mastercard) or cash (EUR, USD, GBP, or local currency).

Good to Know

Tobago is a relaxed, unspoiled island where life moves at a slower pace. European visitors should therefore bring a sense of calm, patience, and tolerance. Things do not always run quickly or smoothly.

We particularly recommend the island for independent travelers who appreciate destinations that are still largely untouched by mass tourism.

Journey

The small diving resort is located in the North Moluccas on the island of Kusu. Long-haul flight with Singapore Airlines to Manado (with overnight stopover on the outward journey) and domestic flight to Labuha with two-hour boat transfer to the resort. Alternatively: flight via Jakarta via Ternate or via Manado (with overnight stopover).
