Extra Divers dive centre is situated directly at the islands jetty and provides a reception, a dry- & equipment room, rental equipment and washing basins. Dive center and boats are equipped with all necessary gadgets (oxygen, first aid kit, radio), the next doctor is in Berau, and the closest decompression chamber is located in Balikpapan. All dive master and instructors are trained in first aid.
Just a few steps afar from the dive center, the house reef - stretching along for about 4 km- welcomes all divers the whole day long for spectacular diving experiences.
Diving/Dive spots
The huge house reef surrounding both islands Virgin Cocoa and Nunukan offers no less than 7 dive spots, stunning guests with incredibly diverse and healthy coral landscapes. While a resident school of big-eye jacks, turtles, barracudas, eagle rays and sharks are a regular sight at “Nunukan Express”, the shallows are no less impressive with moray eels, pigmy sea horses, nudibranches, orang utan crabs and sea snakes all being present.
The legendary spots like Mantapoint Sangalaki, the jellyfish lake in Kakaban or the shark channel in Big Fish Country are part of our diving portfolio. Starting from a great variety of macro creatures up to the encountering of big fish: everything is possible here!
Highlight: Muaras Atoll (exclusively reached from Nunukan and Virgin Cocoa.)
This huge atoll South of the islands is largely undiscovered at this point with Extra Divers offering explorer trips on request. Exceptional reef walls covered in colorful soft corals, crevices inhabited by spiny lobsters, many stingrays and whip-tail stingrays, turtles as well as white-tip reef sharks and grey reef sharks make for impressive dives. Even a spot for frequent encounters with the rare and graceful thresher sharks was discovered not too long ago.
Team & Education
The dive center is under professional, German-speaking management of Yvonne and Alfi. Training is provided according to SSI standards in German and English.
Yvonne learned the hotel business from scratch and successfully managed a hotel in Switzerland for the last years...during her many diving vacations in Indonesia she met and fell in love with Alfi and followed him to Indonesia. She loves the tranquility and nature on the unique island and when time allows, she enjoys exploring the underwater world with the guests....
Alfi is a Divemaster who loves to share his years of experience and enthusiasm for diving as well as his passion with the guests. Whether it is for big fish or for macro lovers...he has something for everyone. With his dive team he makes sure that diving is an unforgettable and relaxing experience.
