Dive with us - Extra Divers Worldwide

Malta / Extra Divers Gozo

Experience the breathtaking underwater landscapes of Gozo, where the island's unique natural beauty continues beneath the surface. Dive into crystal-clear waters with visibility up to 50 metres, exploring impressive caves, overhangs, swim-throughs, and mesmerising rock formations that captivate every diver’s heart. The intense blue of the Mediterranean creates stunning light and colour effects, making every dive a memorable adventure.
Our dive centre is conveniently located at the Grand Hotel in Mgarr, just behind the hotel on Triq Il-Hamri, right next to the iconic mosaic staircase. Set within a traditional Gozitan building, the centre welcomes you with its striking blue entrance. Inside, you'll find the main office, equipment rental room, technical and compressor area, and, at the back, covered terraces for guest gear storage and social spaces – perfect for sharing dive stories and making new friends.
We’ve taken great care to preserve the authentic charm of this classic Gozitan space, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for divers from around the world.

Diving/Dive spots

Around 32 different dive sites can be reached by minibus, jeep, or boat from the Extra Divers base. The centre offers at least two dives every day, with the option for night dives, boat trips, or full-day excursions to selected sites around Comino, Malta, and Gozo upon request. All guided dives are conducted in small groups, ensuring a more personalised experience at the best sites around the islands, including wrecks, steep walls, caves, and grottoes. With the centre's experienced guides, you’ll have the chance to explore iconic dive spots like the Blue Hole and the Inland Sea.
Non-divers and snorkellers are also welcome to join, space permitting, on the vehicle trips. Qualified divers who prefer to explore independently can also dive without a guide if they choose.

Why Dive in Gozo?
Gozo's diving is known for its exceptional visibility and warm waters, reaching up to 29°C in summer. Underwater, you might encounter large groupers, massive shoals of sea bream, barracudas, jacks, and occasionally even tuna or eagle rays. Constant companions include octopuses and cuttlefish, while macro enthusiasts will enjoy searching for seahorses and nudibranchs. A particular highlight is spotting helmet shells on night dives. Gozo is suitable for both beginners and highly experienced divers, as currents are generally minimal – making it an ideal destination for both learning to dive and improving your skills.

Convenient and Flexible Dive Options
Dives and snorkel trips depart directly from the dive centre. Equipment is available for hire, and the short trips to nearby southern sites, including some wrecks, mean you can often return to the base for a lunch break. Dives to the northern or western sites are typically organised as two-tank-dives, as these locations are about 20 minutes away by vehicle.

Medical Requirements for Older Divers
Please note that divers over the age of 60 are required by Maltese law to present a medical certificate for diving. A self-declaration is not sufficient.

The dive centre is managed by Markus Lanz, supported by a team of four dive instructors. Training is offered in German, English, Spanish, and French, following the SSI system, from Open Water Diver (OWD) to Assistant Instructor.
