Kalimantan / Nabucco´s Nunukan Island Resort
Emplacement
Opened in August 2008, the Nunukan Island Resort offers the perfect blend of total relaxation in comfortable beachfront bungalows and unparalleled diving adventures. This enchanting island is situated off the east coast of Kalimantan, at the southern tip of the Maratua Atoll, on Bakungan Kecil Island – a paradise for adventurous divers, nature lovers, and those seeking a unique tropical escape.
From your own private jetty, you can access the stunning house reef, while further south, the little-explored Muaras Atoll beckons for those keen on underwater exploration.
Nunukan Island continues the trusted Nabucco Resorts philosophy of harmonising with the natural environment. The bungalows are built using locally sourced materials, and solar power provides eco-friendly hot water.
From spring 2025, fresh vegetables will be sustainably grown directly on the island, thanks to a state-of-the-art hydroponic system – a step towards even greater self-sufficiency.
Installations
The resort features a welcoming reception with a small shop, stylish bungalows set right on the beach, and a restaurant and bar offering stunning sea views. At the heart of the island, a small "mini jungle" provides a natural habitat for birds and small monitor lizards.
The on-site Extra Divers dive centre gives guests direct access to some of the region’s most spectacular dive sites. High-speed Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, keeping you connected even in this remote paradise.
Since 2024, Nunukan Island has been connected to its neighbouring island, Virgin Cocoa, by a nearly kilometre-long jetty – perfect for a morning jog, a relaxed evening stroll over the water, or stargazing under the clear night sky.
Hébergement
Each of the 22 spacious standalone bungalows is set directly on the white sandy beach, offering breathtaking views over the lagoon. Combining comfort and natural charm, every bungalow is equipped with air conditioning, a safe, minibar, mosquito net, and a private terrace featuring a cosy daybed for ultimate relaxation.
For those blissful, dive-free days, comfortable sun loungers are provided – perfect for unwinding.
A standout feature: each bungalow boasts a semi-open, covered bathroom, allowing you to shower with uninterrupted views of the sea.
Sport et Bien-être
Diving and snorkelling take centre stage on Nunukan, whether it’s exploring the vibrant house reef just off the jetty or venturing to the world-renowned dive sites around the Maratua Atoll. However, there’s much more to discover above the waves, too.
For those who like to stay active, a volleyball court shaded by palm trees offers the perfect spot for a friendly match. The nearly kilometre-long jetty connecting Nunukan to the neighbouring Virgin Cocoa Island is ideal for a morning jog or a leisurely evening stroll over the water.
Nature enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, from the island’s lush interior to the ever-changing coastline, where hermit crabs, seabirds, and other small wonders await discovery.
For a more relaxed pace, unwind on the daybed of your private bungalow, enjoy a soothing massage in the shade of the trees, or simply take in the sweeping sea views with a tropical cocktail at the bar.
Whether you prefer to be active or simply unwind, Nunukan is a place where everyone can find their balance.
Restauration & Culinaire
Guests can choose between half-board and full-board options. Mornings begin with a generous à la carte breakfast, featuring both continental and Asian favourites, the perfect way to ease into the day.
In the evening, indulge in a varied four-course dinner. For those on full board, a three-course lunch is also included.
Half-board guests can select from a carefully curated à la carte menu, crafted from high-quality ingredients to ensure every dish is a treat.
The restaurant spans three levels, connected by charming wooden bridges, each with stunning views of the sea and surrounding nature. In the open, modern kitchen, the talented chef creates fresh Asian and European specialities daily.
Enfants
Nunukan welcomes not only divers but also families eager to escape into tropical tranquillity and the turquoise sea. Upon request, we’re happy to provide an extra bed in your bungalow for little ones.
Children under 11 years of age enjoy a 50% discount when sharing their parents' room. The soft sandy beach right at your doorstep is perfect for playing and exploring. And if Mum and Dad fancy a little time to themselves, we can arrange a caring, experienced babysitter on request.
Whether it’s splashing in the shallow waters, strolling along the long jetty, or marvelling at the vibrant marine life of the house reef, Nunukan is a place for letting go, relaxing, and making memories – for guests big and small alike.
Règlement sur place
On the island, payment is accepted in cash (IDR, EUR, or USD – please note, only flawless US dollar bills printed in 2009 or later are accepted) or via direct online transfer (note: TAN codes via mobile phone are not possible).
Environnement
Our resort isn’t just a place to unwind – it’s also a model of sustainable tourism, harmonising with nature. Fresh water is supplied by a high-efficiency desalination plant, supported by a smart rainwater collection system tailored to the tropical climate. Wastewater is treated using eco-friendly septic tanks.
From spring 2025, we’re taking another step towards self-sufficiency: much of our fresh produce will come directly from our on-site hydroponic garden. For a greener start to your holiday, why not take advantage of our shared transfer service?
