A stunning dive resort far from the typical tourist trails – the Moluccas, also known as the "Spice Islands," lie between Sulawesi and New Guinea. This region, long forgotten by mass tourism, is now a true insider tip for divers, nature enthusiasts, and history buffs alike. With pristine coral reefs and an extraordinary diversity of marine life, the Northern Moluccas offer a fascinating destination for both macro enthusiasts and big fish fans.
Plongée/Sites de plongée
The professionally managed Extra Divers dive centre, operated under German guidance, is located directly at the resort's jetty. More than 40 untouched dive sites are just 5 to 20 minutes away by boat. Diving is conducted in small groups, with a maximum of four divers per guide, allowing for a more personalised experience. Up to five dives per day are possible, including single tank, double tank, early morning, and night dives, depending on your preference. For those looking for a unique adventure, a day trip to the renowned muck diving spot Magic Jetty can also be arranged upon request. The dive sites offer everything from easy-to-explore macro havens to vibrant coral gardens and fast-paced channels with big fish potential.
The Northern Moluccas promise unforgettable dives thanks to their incredible biodiversity. Encounters with blacktip reef sharks are almost guaranteed, while nutrient-rich walls often attract grey reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks. Turtles, jacks, and bumphead parrotfish are also common sights. A true highlight of the region is the rare, endemic Halmahera Walking Shark, which is often seen roaming the reefs on night dives.
Macro enthusiasts will also find plenty to marvel at here, with regular sightings of pygmy seahorses, frogfish, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, leaf scorpionfish, octopuses, and even harlequin and boxer shrimp.
The underwater landscape of the Northern Moluccas is a paradise for underwater photographers, boasting dense, brightly coloured coral gardens, large, intact hard corals, vivid sponges, and sprawling sea fans. Best of all, thanks to the remote location, you'll rarely encounter other divers – making for a truly exclusive experience.
Important: Due to the remote location of the resort, a valid travel health and dive insurance policy (e.g., DAN, aqua med, or similar) is required. Proof of insurance must be presented on-site.
