Maluku Explorer: It does not always have to be Raja Ampat ...
In southern Halmahera, off the Indonesian Moluccas, there is only a single boat - the Maluku Explorer! Built by divers for divers, it encounters with each tour in still unexplored areas of the North Moluccas (Southern Halmahera).
Reason enough to revise the tour plan after discovering countless new dive sites!
Here we would like to briefly introduce you to some of the new highlights:
- Pulau Tifore
Dive amongst a school of more than thousand barracudas and trevally's hanging in the current at this underwater mount. Absolutely breathtaking.
- Lembeh (Sulawesi) and/or Panambuang Bay (Pulau Bacan)
Muckdiving at it's best! Different species of seahorses, octopuses, nudiebranch and many other critters.
- Gorainchi Islands
Stunning reefs overgrown with colorful hard and soft corals. Also pelagic coming by. Oceanic white tip sharks have been spotted. Mantas can be seen around Pulau's Lilei and Tolimao.
- The islands between Halmahera and Pulau Bacan
Due to small channels between the islands we can experience strong currents. Because of that it is shark galore! Also an abundance of schooling fish as well as macro can be found here.
- Pulau Bacan
Depending on our schedule we can offer a great landtour organised by the Tourism Department of South Halmahera. This normally includes visiting an old Portuguese fort, traditional dancing, local market, and a few more.
This is just a small selection of dive areas out of many we can offer. But for sure these are 'highlights'!
